International students joining NCC for long-term study enter mainstream classes alongside Australian students.
To help ensure students are placed in an appropriate year level and have the support they need to succeed, NCC considers both academic achievement and English language proficiency as part of the application process.
Academic requirements
Prep to Year 6
Primary School applicants are assessed according to their previous school reports, engagement with learning and age-appropriate literacy and numeracy achievement.
Placement also considers the student’s age, academic ability and social development.
Years 7 to 12
Students applying for Years 7 to 12 should generally have achieved a pass or C grade or better in the majority of their core subjects.
School reports are reviewed as part of the application and placement process.
English language requirements
International applicants for whom English is a second language need to demonstrate an appropriate level of English for their proposed year of entry.
NCC accepts results from recognised English language assessments including:
- AEAS – Australian Education Assessment Services
- Duolingo English Test (DET)
- IELTS Academic
Minimum requirements vary by year level.

English language results are considered alongside school reports, the student’s interview and other supporting information.
Where a student’s English is below the required level, they may need to undertake additional English language study before entering mainstream classes.
Students under 12
Students under 12 years of age are welcome to apply for Study Abroad but cannot be placed in Homestay accommodation.
They must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of their stay.
