TAKE THE PLEDGE – Together, we are powerful

Current Pledges

Current number of pledges made so far. 2

What if

your child wasn’t the ‘only one’ without a smartphone or a social media account?

What if

the next generation of our children were not just Generation Alpha, defined by their immersion in technology, but Generation Freeunhooked from smartphones, restored to childhood, and connected to each other in the real world.

Nambour Christian College is dedicated to uniting its parent community to be empowered, unified, and committed to supporting each other in the responsibility of raising children who flourish in all aspects of human endeavour. We want to partner with you to shape our students’ character, learning journey and connection to others.

Change starts with all of us rejecting the narrative that childhood mediated by addictive algorithms is the only option.

Together, we make a different choice.
Together, we are powerful.

The NCC Screen Strong Parent Pledge

No smartphones before Year 10

Let’s delay our children’s entry into round-the-clock internet access by providing only basic phones with limited apps and no internet browser until the end of Year 9.

No social media before age 16

Let’s allow our children to get through the most vulnerable period of brain development before connecting them to an avalanche of social comparison and algorithmically chosen influences.

Take the Pledge

NCC Screen Strong Parents want their children:

Unhooked: Our children deserve the opportunity to flourish as they learn and grow, free from addictive algorithms and devices. Let’s pledge to unhook them.

Restored: Our children deserve real-world experiences of free play and independent activity where their curiosity and creativity can flourish. Let’s pledge to restore their childhood.

Connected: Our children deserve real-world experiences that involve family and friends, where their connection with others can flourish. Let’s pledge to help them genuinely connect.

Please compete for each child.

I pledge to give my child a smartphone free childhood until the end of Grade 9 and no access to social media until age 16.
