When you are preparing to undertake Years 10-12 there are three important areas you need to understand. They are:
- QCE – Queensland Certificate of Education
- QCAA – Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority
- QTAC – Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre
- ATAR – Australian Tertiary Admission Rank
QCE
The myQCE website helps students in Years 10-12 plan their pathway to achieving a QCE. Check out the student portal.

Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) study can be particularly daunting. All the rules and requirements as well as the huge range of subjects can scare and confuse you.
It doesn’t have to be that way. On this page you will find information and links to more information about QCE rules and requirements as well as lots of helpful subject specific material.
This video gives you an overview of the QCE and what you need to achieve it.
QCE Study Requirements:
When you are studying towards a QCE you have a wide range of learning options. These can include senior school subjects, vocational education and training, workplace and community learning, and university subjects undertaken while at school.
Courses of study are organised into 3 categories:
- Core
- Preparatory
- Complementary
To be eligible for a QCE, you must achieve at least 20 credits of learning. A minimum of 12 credits must come from completed Core courses of study. The remaining 8 credits can come from a combination of core, preparatory or complimentary courses with preparatory studies contributing a maximum of 4 credits. Partial completion of a Core course of study may also contribute some credit.
More information about meeting the requirements of the QCE can be found on the Planning Your Pathway page of the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority website.

ATAR
The Australian Tertiary Admission Rank, commonly known as the ATAR, is a crucial component in your tertiary education journey. It serves as a ranking system that reflects a student’s overall academic performance in their final years of secondary education, providing a standardised measure for university admissions. Understanding the ATAR is essential for students, parents, and educators, as it plays a significant role in determining the pathways available for further study and career opportunities.
