UNPLUG CHILDHOOD | NCC Screen Strong Parents invites you to work together with the power of parental collective commitment. Individual efforts to restrict phone and online use are often ineffective because children feel excluded if they are the ‘only ones’ without a smartphone or access to social media.
Therefore, the most effective approach is a collective approach where parents, schools, and communities work together to establish new norms around technology use. If you want to see your children or adolescents: unhooked from devices and free to flourish restored to childhood play and socialising connected in genuine, real-life contexts please join NCC Screen Strong Parents in pledging to delay giving our children a smartphone and access to social media. NORMANTON SERVICE TRIP | Over ten days, forty one Year 9 students and six staff members set off on an unforgettable service trip to Normanton in the Gulf Country of northwest Queensland — and what an adventure it was!
Their mission? Support the local community by helping at the iconic Normanton Rodeo. From cleaning toilets and showers to collecting mountains of rubbish, our students worked hard behind the scenes, raising funds for Gulf Christian College and making a real impact.
But it wasn’t all hard work! The team embraced every moment — exploring lava tubes in Undara, dancing in the town’s vibrant street parade, a campout on the Norman river, spotting crocodiles on a sunset cruise, and stargazing under endless skies.
Even more meaningful were the connections made with Gulf Christian College students. Our Year 9s helped in classrooms, shared Bible study, played basketball, and built friendships that will last long after the trip.
This journey wasn’t about recognition — it was about service, community, and faith in action. Well done to this incredible team for living out what it means to serve with purpose and heart. ... See MoreSee Less

What a great trip and thank you to the NCC team that looked after the students so well. ❤️

UN YOUTH AUSTRALIA | Last Saturday, 14 of our students competed in the preliminary round of the Evatt Competition with UN Youth Australia: Caoife, Charlotte, Ezekiel, Thesath, Oliver and Henry (from Year 11); and Holly, Isabella, Grace, Libby, Harrison, James, Samuel and Riley (from Year 12).
The round was held at Sunshine Coast Grammar School, and it involved students from five other schools. This was the first time NCC students participated in the Evatt Competition and our students demonstrated poise and confidence, working effectively with their teams and collaborating with others.
In pairs, the students represented a country in a simulated UN Security Council session. Prior to the event, they were informed about their country and the first resolution they would be addressing. For the first debate, the resolution's focus was on drug trafficking and its connection to a global increase in violent crime. Since students were aware of their first topic, they had the opportunity to prepare; however, the second topic was an unseen, impromptu resolution, which meant that students needed to apply what they knew about their country to an entirely new situation. Talk about thinking on your feet!
It was an interesting and fast-paced experience, and I watched each student develop confidence throughout the round. ... See MoreSee Less

NCC SCREEN STRONG PARENTS PLEDGE | The smartphone was first popularised around 2010. With it came unlimited data, front-facing cameras and instant 24-hour access to social media. It has become our children’s new playground. It’s perhaps no surprise that an increase in anxiety, depression and psychological distress in Australia has also increased since that time.
Join NCC Screen Strong Parents in collectively trying to change those statistics for our own children. Unite with other parents in your child’s cohort and pledge together to delay giving our children a smartphone and access to social media. A CELEBRTION OF SKILL, SPIRIT and SPORTSMANSHIP | At the end of week 3, two teams—one senior and one junior—proudly represented NCC at the Vicki Wilson Netball Competition. Held as a one-day carnival, the event brought together schools from across the region for a day of exciting and competitive netball. Despite facing tough weather conditions, with rain and strong winds making play challenging at times, our girls rose to the occasion with determination and resilience.
Both teams competed hard throughout the day, showing great skill and teamwork on the court. Their efforts were rewarded with a couple of impressive wins and many closely contested matches. The players’ athleticism was evident in every game, with sharp passes, quick footwork, and strong defensive plays contributing to some thrilling moments.
Just as impressive as their physical performance was the spirit in which our students competed. The girls consistently upheld the values of fair play, integrity, and respect for others—win or lose. Their ability to stay positive and supportive of one another was a highlight of the day, reinforcing the importance of sportsmanship and school pride.
A big thank you goes to our wonderful coaches for their guidance and encouragement, the parents who supported from the side-lines, and of course, the players themselves for their outstanding efforts. The day was a great success and a testament to the strength and spirit of our netball program. ... See MoreSee Less
NCC MEETS FRANKENSTEIN | Last week, a group of brave and excited senior Literature and Drama students embarked on a journey to QPAC to see Mary Shelley’s gothic masterpiece Frankenstein, presented by Shake n Stir. Impacting themes of acceptance, family, loneliness and ethical dilemma were presented in a visually stunning performance.
For many students, this was their first theatre experience, so to be witness to such high-quality performance was wonderful. As students of gothic literature and theatre, the story-telling and characterisation, combined with stunning sets and costumes, and spectacular lighting created an impacting learning experience that brought literature to life. ...
