Hi from the NCC Boarding House Family
It’s been a while coming, however, we would like to introduce ourselves to the wider school family if you have not already met us. Glenn and Karen Eggleston along with their four sons… Jed, Nathan, Aaron and Samuel, live at the NCC boarding house with the six Year 10 students from Normanton and Karumba who are here to do their Senior schooling at NCC.
The Boarders names are Kieran, Jarrod, Josiah, Lachlan, Jasmine and Elleah.
The current facilities that make up the boarding house is the main house, where the Eggleston family and female boarders sleep and the boarding annex, the sleeping accommodation for the male boarders. The main house is the hub of all major activities and time together from meals to hanging out around the fire pit of an evening eating marshmallows. The addition of the boys sleeping accommodation has provided more space for everyone to enjoy since Term 2.
Since commencing the boarding program at the beginning of Term 1, lots of settling into boarding life and NCC schooling has happened for everyone. Life in the boarding house is always busy with boarders coming and going from so many different activities – Rugby 7s, swimming squad, Volleyball, Gym and early morning Pastry classes.
During the week the boarding students have big days… morning routine and tasks to do before school, school at NCC, afternoon tea, then off to different sport training, dinner and then down to the homework classroom with Glenn to do homework till 8.30pm.
All the boarders are a long way from family and home, however, have done well adjusting to boarding and school life being so far away from their loved ones.
We have had six birthdays in the boarding house so far this year – a highlight of having a big family.
Weekends are always a time to enjoy a bit of a sleep in, watching anyone competing in sport and doing some fun activities together… Kondalilla falls, climbing Glasshouse and Coolum mountains, the beach, movies, Movie World, Wet and Wild and so on.
Wednesday nights are our guest night where we enjoy sharing a meal with staff from NCC or people visiting from the local community.
Thursday’s is connect group at the boarding house with the Youth Pastor and Youth Leaders from Suncoast Church… they are always very generous with the stack of Domino’s Pizza they gift everyone with on arrival. It’s a great time of fellowship and building of special friendships.
Friday afternoon is youth at Suncoast Church filled with lots of fun and awesome worship; this is followed up on Sunday night at Suncoast Church’s youth service. We are so thankful for their amazing outreach and being able to go along and worship.
I hope I have been able to give you all a bit of a glimpse of a week here at NCC Boarding and the special big boarding family that lives here.
