Senior Management
Meet the College Principal
Mr Geoff van der Vliet
After completing a science degree at the University of Qld, Geoff was involved in a pilot post-graduate program between UQ and Kingston State High School to complete his education studies. As a young man of 23 years, Geoff van der Vliet commenced teaching Mathematics and Science at NCC in 1988. Geoff was appointed College Principal in 2018 after holding previous leadership roles of Head of Senior School, College Deputy Principal and Head of Middle School.
Geoff was attracted to Christian education for its scope to nurture the holistic growth of young people through the intellectual, physical, social, emotional and spiritual domains. He is convinced that effective learning builds on a foundation of care and strong relationships. Geoff has led NCC’s pastoral care program to be based on an ‘attachment’ framework, which is consistent with the biblical model of the inherent worth of each person while recognising the importance of relationships in the well-being of students and staff. Complementing this is NCC’s broad curricular, co-curricular and service programs aimed at giving each student opportunities to grow and excel.
Geoff’s vision for NCC is to further develop an outstanding teaching and learning culture while focusing on developing each student’s character as preparation for excellence in all areas of life, and to build a strong sense of community in and through the college.
Geoff and his wife Karen have two children, both now young adults, who have graduated from NCC.
