Cultural Exchange Program

History

In 2000, Nambour Christian College and KyungHwa Girls Middle and High School in South Korea established a sister school agreement. This was the beginning of a special union of our two schools and an ongoing privilege for NCC to host KyungHwa each year during January/February for 4 weeks.

Purpose

The purpose of the program is to give the overseas students an opportunity to experience life in Australia by becoming a part of an Australian family, interacting with NCC students and school life. It also allows them to improve their knowledge and skill of the English language by visiting places of interest within Queensland and learning about our history and culture.

Host Families

Hospitality and kindness are a universal language and the experience of hosting overseas students is a wonderful opportunity for families. The Korean students are placed in pairs and value the warmth and relaxed lifestyle of their host family. At home with the host families the students practice English conversation and become members of the family.

Program

During the 4 weeks of the program the students will attend school, have ESL (English as a second language) classes and have the opportunity to participate in the NCC curriculum. Excursions are a large part of their time in South East Queensland comprising of visits to places such as the Australian Woolshed, Movieworld, Qld Museum and Art Gallery and Fraser Island. Cultural experiences with the didgeridoo, music performances and classes with our primary students are a part of the learning opportunities.

If you would like to become a host family or would like more information regarding the program please contact the College Registrar.
