Student Leaders for 2008
As our Deputy Principal, Mr Geoff van der Vliet, introduced the student leaders of the College for 2008 at the recent Student Leader Induction Service, he highlighted some of the distinctive characteristics of student leadership at NCC. They are:
- the Biblical model of servant leadership
- leadership is realising and using influence (something we all possess)
- actions speak louder than words
- leadership skills can be learned, and
- it is never too late to make a difference to the lives of others around you
The keynote address at the service, presented by Head of College - Mr Bruce Campbell, highlighted that the easy part of leadership is to wear the badge; the more challenging part is to deserve and honour the badge.
‘Leadership in our College is about putting your hand up and saying, ‘I would like to have a go’; it is about seeing the needs of others and looking at ways to meet those needs’, added Mr Campbell.
The example of Jesus Christ as a leader was held up as a role model for all leaders. Jesus saw that people had great needs and, with compassion, acted to meet their needs. He is a wonderful example of putting others before oneself.
Mr Campbell concluded by suggesting three ways the leaders of 2008 could take up their responsibilities:
- Be alert to others and sensitive to their needs
- Care about how people are and how they feel
- Act when things need doing to promote individuals and community welfare
There are a large number of leaders that make up the student leadership team at NCC and these are principally from Year 12, Year 9 (Middle School) and Year 6 (Primary School).
